Scholarship FAQs:
1. Is my major eligible for this scholarship?
Each scholarship has specific academic requirements. Most awards require enrollment in an ABET-accredited engineering program, but you should verify the exact criteria for each individual scholarship before applying.
2. Must I submit all documents to be considered?
Yes. To be eligible for review, your application must be complete. While requirements vary by scholarship, a standard packet typically includes the application form, a personal essay, your transcripts, and letters of recommendation.
3. What should I focus on in my essay?
While each scholarship asks a slightly different question, your essay should generally highlight your interest in engineering and your long-term career goals related to engineering. Engineers write on a daily basis, so treat this as you would an essay that includes a thesis statement, supporting arguments, and closing statements.
4. How can I use the scholarship funds?
If you are selected, the funds are sent directly to you rather than the school. This allows you to apply the award toward any aspect of your educational expenses.
5. If I have received an NMEF scholarship before, can I apply again?
Yes! Most of our scholarships are awarded annually, so previous recipients are encouraged to reapply for the next academic year.
6. What is the likelihood of winning a scholarship?
This varies, but keep in mind that the Scholarship review committee is comprised of volunteers from your community, not a bot! We consider all aspects, including academic merit, extra curricular commitments, leadership, and financial need. We read every essay and application component. Each year we receive between 20 - 60 applicants, and award up to 20, depending on the funds available.
